With the American male accounting for 1.1 million total cosmetic procedures in
2008*, men seem to be changing their attitude about aesthetic services. Wanting to appear youthful and healthy well
into their 50’s and 60’s has led men to re-think grooming and beauty procedures
that were formally just the domain of women.
In the last year I have seen a
rise in the number of male patients at Innovative Aesthetics. Whether it’s a result of prompting from their
wife or significant other, or the fact that aesthetic procedures are safer and
more widespread today, men are deciding to undergo medical aesthetics solutions
at a rate higher than I’ve ever seen.
And when celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay makes the news for getting BOTOX
injections, you know we have reached a tipping point.
The majority of men who come to
see me are looking for fat removal and wrinkle reduction. They undergo SmartLipo or VASER Liposelection
to sculpt their pecs and get rid of any belly paunch. They ask for BOTOX and Juvederm to reduce and
fill wrinkles. Or they remove age spots
and sun damage with the SmartXide DOT Laser.
I am even seeing young men in teens, 20s and 30s in my practice. The younger male audience is most interested
in the Tanda Professional Light Therapy system - a hand-held, take-home acne
treatment. More serious cases of acne can also be treated with the SmartXide DOT Therapy
resurfacing laser. Last but not least,
we also see men who are looking for hair removal solutions, which we treat with
the Silk’n hair removal laser.
Men who have medical aesthetics procedures are just as
happy as women with the results.
However, it’s not something that just comes up in normal male
conversation. Men are reluctant to talk
about their grooming habits. They will talk about their exercise regimen at the
gym, but that's about the extent of it.
So if there’s a man in your life who is
interested in learning more about medical aesthetics, encourage him to schedule
his free consultation today.
